I really enjoyed how the adaptation tried to keep the flavor of the original book-with the archaic language and such. The soundtrack is one of the best ever.Īnyway, the graphic novel was beautiful, with fabulous art. I haven't read the book for many years, but loved the movie with Daniel Day Louis. I picked up a graphic novel the other day of an American classic, James Fenimore Cooper's, The Last of the Mohicans. The art is also very good, top notch really, for the genre, and the arrangement of panels makes scenes flow smoothly. Worth noting the archaic language here, quite a departure from the usual format for graphic novels, and that stays understandable despite the odd word here and there.

Of the females, poor Cora is such a strong girl and didn't deserve what fell on her. He's very courageous too, what he offers to that treacherous Huron for the woman he loves mirrors Uncas' daring nicely. Another character that surprised me pleasantly was Major Heyward, he's quite resourceful, honourable, and in no way pusillaminous as I'd half-expected. He's a very good character, and his endgame is way more tragic than I'd been lead to believe by the films, but also beautiful, because it comes as a result of sacrifice and selflessness, and bravery. I'd been under the impression that Hawkeye was the protagonist and was prepared for him to concentrate my attention, so I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the case: he's prominent, but it's the story of Uncas what would captivate a reader. It's completely different to the most famous screen adaptation, and in my opinion sadder. I've never read the Fenimore Cooper novel, but I'm glad that this was my introduction to the original plot.
